Study
Graduated Rowan University with a B.S. in Computer Science. Early on I had also attempted a music minor, but I quickly decided to focus on one area of study.
While there I completed these Major-Specializations:
- Software Engineering
- Information Technologies
- Artificial Intelligence
- Programing Languages
Work
For 3.5 years I was a 'Resident Assistant' at Rowan. ie. 'Dorm-Room Problem-Solver' and 'Entertainmetn Coordianter'. But it paid the bills.
During this period I was also a lab-monitor in the Comp-Science: Advanced Computer Lab, did some commercial freelance web-design, and worked at a local computer store (JLM Computers) when home on breaks.
Other Events
In summer 2005, I flew out to L.A. for the E3-2005 (Electronic Entertainment Expo). When I returned home again it was time to start my internship at Crestron Electronics.
Next Step
Graduation
Officially graduated in December of 2005. I got to walk on a beautiful May day in 2006. Mom, Dad, and my then-girlfriend Melissa were all there, and we had a fantastic day!
Enviro-Torque 2.0
Everyone seems to agree that resume's (alone) aren't worth much. So I decided to come up with a demo-project that would stand out.
That spring, I began working on Enviro Torque 2.0, a mod for the Torque-Game-Engine by GarageGames that would handle dynamic weather and environmental effects.
South Carolina
Lowcountry Paver
Just after the Rowan Graduation Ceremony, an old web-design client offered me a job as an IT guy near Hilton Head, South Carolina.
I was tasked with designing, building, and migrating the company to a real small-business network. The office and the plant would have to be linked. Then they needed software powerful enough to drive all the back-office, sales, inventory, production scheduling, shipping, and customer management operations of a $10 million batch manufacturing company.
The problem sounded interesting enough, challenging but still manageable. The timing was right, I loved the location, and I needed the money. I took the job.
Unfortunately, it quickly became clear the company was not at all committed to the goals they had hired me to accomplish. Not happy with the direction things were taking, I left within a year.
A Little Construction
I needed a break and a change of pace. I went to work with a friend, building a $2-million house on an island off of Savannah, GA. So I got to learn something about construction and carpentry!
It's been a great experience but now I'm ready to go back to the computer world.
DragonFly Software
Over the years I began series of projects to add new dynamic weather-effects to the Torque Game Engine. These add-ons produce a more immersive and life-like gaming experience.
In early 2008, partly due to community demand, I decided it was time to finish these projects and publish them. To that end, DragonFly Software was founded. To learn more, please visit us at: Dragonfly Software
