Internship: Crestron Electronics
ICIF Scholarship
Scholarships are hard to come by for a guy like me. I managed to win this one, from the Audio/Visual industry, by writing a convincing essay on why they need more programmers like me. The premise being that their technology is increasingly software driven and soon the hardware will be just another necessary evil. Along with the money, came a mandatory internship at one of their affiliate companies.
Crestron Electronics
You can visit them at www.crestron.com. They make the touch panels and control systems that drive the worlds SMART-classrooms, conference/board rooms, command & control centers etc.
For my part, I worked on a project called SystemBuilder. SystemBuilder lets you drag-and-drop A/V components into a project and then it generates the complete GUI and control-logic for a touch panel from templates. I worked on several of the graphical-templates, reported close to two dozen bugs and possible 'enhancements', and wrote a program to automate some of the syntax checking in the templates.
Overall it was a fun learning experience and a good time had by all.
